It was the extremely bent (boomerang may be a better term!) spreaders that drew our attention initially to the rig on a little known fleet of Mylius 14E55’s sailing in the Capri Rolex regatta. Taking a closer look, we were surprised to find that we have never heard of the manufacturer of these carbon masts either.

A little digging revealed that ‘MALTESE’ spars are built and designed by Vittorio Landolfi in the south of Italy. Vittorio was the principle of the mast development program for Shoshalosa, the 2007 Americas Cup Challenger. All 6 Mylius 14E55 competing in Capri are powered by a ‘Maltese’ spar.
