Construction is well underway at Southern Spars’ dedicated West Auckland premises. The building, in a new subdivision in Rosebank Road, Avondale, will house Southern Spars’ headquarters and all New Zealand-based manufacturing. The new facility is set on a 1.5 ha site and comprises an 8000 sq m warehouse with a 12 m stud and 1250 sq m of offices. The company has taken a 12-year lease on the
General manager David Glen says: “Being based in New Zealand keeps us true to the company’s heritage and we can continue to foster our excellent supplier relationships.”
The move centralises Southern Spars’ New Zealand manufacturing operations under one roof. Consideration of longer term requirements has played an important role in the factory design which accommodates the growing demand for larger and more technically-advanced superyacht and grand prix race rigs. Southern expects to be operating solely from the new site by 1 January, 2011.
