Quantum Racing scored the first win of the season at the inaugural MedCup event sailed in Cascais, Portugal. The new Botin Partners design sailed with a Seamless spar package from Hall. Quantum is helmed by Ed Biard, and won five of the nine races.
The Hall mast was completely redesigned for 2011. Everything from the step to the smallest part was examined and upgraded to reduce weight and eliminate windage. Hall VP Phil Garland was on hand for the racing. “After a few days in Cascais it was obvious that this event is still the pinnacle of Grand Prix pro sailing,” says Phil. “Races were held in 20 to 25 knots and the Hall rigs were all superior, particularly upwind. The stiffness of the spar is spot on.”
The Hall-rigged Container finished an impressive second. The new hull is designed by Judel/Vrolijk and also has the fully optimized Hall Spar package. In fourth place was Synergy, sistership to Quantum, which won the first race of the series and also races with the new Hall Seamless spars. The next event takes place June 14 in Marseille, France.
