The Stanchion Splint, introduced at the maxi worlds, and instantly adopted by a number of the Mini Maxis is an incredibly simple bit of kit but a definite race saver. Designed and built by Graham Street (previously featured on Rigging News), the splints are intended as a temporary repair for a stanchion that has snapped at the middle life line hole. The lifeline does not need to be removed as they come in two halves and are simply cable tied or taped in place enabling the integrity of the stanchion to be restored until it can be replaced.
Made from 7475 aerospace aluminium, weighing in at just 110g per pair, they are compatible with the Southern Spars glass/composite stanchions and are an absolute ‘must have’ for any serious inshore and offshore race program. Contact Graham for further info here.
