(Source: Vendee Globe) Unlike what had been initially planned after Jérémie Beyou’s Maître CoQ lost its mast, the monohull will eventually receive a brand new mast that is currently being built. What a positive way for the entire Maître CoQ sailing team to turn a tough blow into a good opportunity!

After Maître CoQ lost its mast on April 11 off the coast of Arcachon, the damaged mast will eventually be replaced with a brand new one, which is currently under construction, on board Jérémie Beyou’s monohull. The possibility of using a second mast the team was saving in case of an accident had been considered at first. But it has finally been decided to go for a more expensive and technically complex solution that will improve the performances of the boat that won the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe as Foncia. Jérémie Beyou explains: « We are going to do everything we can so that accident becomes something positive. The new mast will be lighter than the original one and it will also be more reliable and more rigid. We are working with a consulting firm to monitor the construction process of the mast. »

That process has already started. The mast has been designed by GSEA Design and i twill be assembled in the CDK shipyard, while everything is being supervised by «Mer Forte » in Port-la-Forêt. Its completion is scheduled for August but, thanks to the spare mast the team had initially considered using and that will be temporarily installed on Maître CoQ, the preparation of the boat and its skipper should remain the same. And Jérémie Beyou will get the opportunity to focus on his physical training and his diet before he follows the schedule below :

April 28 – 29: Guyader Grand Prix

May 13 : Christening in Les Sables d’Olonne

May-June : Sailing between Lorient and Les Sables d’Olonne
