Rolex Sydney to Hobart – Top five yachts across the line sport Southern Spars rigs

© ROLEX-Carlo Borlenghi
(Southern Spars) For the eighth year in a row, a Southern Spars rigged yacht has obtained the Rolex Sydney to Hobart line honours victory! The first five yachts across the finish line and the first three in IRC overall, all sport Southern Spars rig packages. These great results are a direct link to the companies high performance composite spars and rigging.

Following their 6th line honours victory and obtaining a new course record it was officially announced that Bob Oatley’s Southern Spars rigged Wild Oats XI won the historic IRC overall trophy.

Stephen Ainsworth’s Southern Spars rigged 63’ Mini Maxi LOKI (the 2011 race overall winner) was 1st in IRC 1 and 2nd in IRC Corrected Overall in the entire fleet.

The Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht race is the largest and most well respected ocean race in the Southern Hemisphere. For that reason this race is held deeply in the heart of the company and many of the team at Southern Spars have made the historic crossing to Hobart.

Congratulations to the owners and crews of all the Southern Spars rigged yachts that competed in the 2012 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race including New Zealand’s own Ray Hasler and his RP42 Rikki, which had Olympic Silver Medalist Blair Tuke onboard for his first ocean race.
